Some episode 3 easter eggs part 1

Well the blog has gone crazy since I posted that review!

Ok I've flagged up some Sound/music themes in this episode:

Walzer's stutter; Walzer's music and it's use in SETI; Vernon's radio interference; "I hope you like Motown".

Here are some visuals. First the newscasts: unlike episode 2 they seem to all be about the events occurring on the base. I an't see all of that headline, but I can read: C MILLER SHARPLY CRITICISED FOR INACTION

RCMP stands for Royal Canadian Mounted Police which makes sense. Sorry if you all knew that already.

Yuri's hospital label suggests episode 3 takes place on Sep 27th 2011, which would make Earthfall on the 24th. If there's ever a need for one I'll do a timeline.

That's all for now, will post some more easter eggs tomorrow, and feel free to request some in the comments.

  1. Wouldn't earthfall be on the 24th? They wouldn't update his arm band every day.

  2. You mean the 27th? But yeah I take your point. Or it could have been on the 26th and they didn't get round to putting the band on til the next day if you see what I mean.

  3. *Finally* I have something useful to contribute - I'm pretty sure the mention of Nasa spending money to develop a space pen when the Russians simply used a pencil is a nod to the film Primer, which contains a similar line. I have no evidence to back up my theory that these are connected, but I will say that this is not the first time I've noticed similarities between P1 and Primer. So when that line came up in episode three I thought it was too much to be coincidence.

  4. Hi Melissa,

Thanks for taking the time to make the comments. It's always good to know what people out there are thinking.

The 'Russians Used a Pencil' is a bit of an urban myth which is actually false:

However, I take your point about Primer, there are quite a few similarities, not least is the fact that both entities are telling the story they want without outside interference (other than budget I guess).

  5. Good catch Jake

in that scene, both written and shot, Dr. Walzer actually explains that story was a myth, but it was cut out of the finial edit.

  6. @Mickey: Now you say that I remember thinking that was something Walzer would certainly know, and not something he'd let go unmentioned. I'll look forward to the extended version.
